Producing music videos may seem like the fun, wild, avant garde end of "rock 'n roll" but in fact these videos require experience and expertise in camera work and direction that is often not appreciated.
You will frequently need more than one day in the studio and for any outside or location shots you need to be able to ensure good facilities for power, crew, equpiment etc.
It is also not just a question of - you sing and we'll point the camera..........we have to plan music videos in the same way that we do any promotional film. We study the music, lyrics, band style, have meetings to liaise on artistic direction and then prepare a detailed storyboard so that filming is planned to the finest detail.
Music videos shoots often require a larger crew than for any corporate work as you have to allow for wardrobe, make-up, choreographers, high-end lighting and the other crew and equipment.
Our ethos is that each video should be an artistic piece of work in its own right, that works with and compliments the music and the performer to the highest standard. We recognise that a music video is also a primary marketing source for music sales and singer/band publicity. Every video needs to be original, compelling and worthy of air-time. Broadcast quality is the key.
Our minimum charge out rate for a music video project is £15,000. Our experience is that budgets less than that cannot achieve sufficient quality to attain their purpose and our policy is that it is unfair to simply take money from bands for a low standard video that we know will not be of proper broadcast quality. A high-end 5 minute music video can cost in the region of £100,000. If you would like a quote for a music video here are some points to consider when identifying your requirements:
- Do you want to be in a studio or on location?
- Do you want more than one set in the video?
- Will you need actors/extras?
- Will you need dancers and/or a choreographer?
- Have you organised your own rehearsal days or do you want us to organise that for you?
- Have you organised wardrobe (costumes) and make-up or do you wnat us to do that for you?
- Do you want any special effects or graphics to be over-laid on the video?
- Do you want the video for general broadcast release or is there a specific audience or purpose that we should know about to make the artistic direction more audience targetted?
- Do you have your own ideas about artistic content/direction or is that something you want to place in our hands?
- Do you have any other music videos (from yourself or other artisits) whose style you like and can direct us to for ideas as to what you are after?
Do phone our artistic director David Baumber if you want to discuss your ideas and what we can do for you. For a more detailed qoute for a video why not send us an email giving us as much information as you can, considering the above points if that helps, and we will give you a breakdown of our project costs as soon as possible.
We are sorry that we do not offer free videos on the basis that we then benefit from the air-play time and your publicity - making these videos costs a great deal of time and money and we are simply unable to dedicate that without appropriate remuneration.
Please note - we are used to dealing with confidential information, and source material such as any music tracks you send us to work on will not be heard by anyone other than staff or necessary crew at any stage until your record is on public release.
